under a serpent sun

nothing compares to swedish death metal and one of its brightest gems: At the Gates
by random found the complete history dvd, produced by the talented Anders Björler, main guitarist and founder. i am just blown of the stories told, most of them quite unbelievable and show how fragile european underground was in the early nineties. also fond of what Alf Svensson, original mastermind of their early years shared of getting inspired by reversed recordings and composing nonlinear (and sometimes polyphonic) guitar melodies, which turned this band one of the most distinctive and unique group of the era.
of course the most interesting and unknown event this band had its sudden disband: always thought it was due to a conflict between frontman Tomas Lindberg and other members - on the contrary, it was Anders getting enough of being ripped by tours and 'managements'. note: about 13 years later Anders quitted the famous The Haunted - and for our fortune, now he is involved in finishing his solo debut: Antikythera. very much anticipated, just listen to the harp-guitar interlude of below dvd.

in addition: due to Jeff Hannemann passed in recent weeks, listened to many Slayer records. as it is known, At the Gates were huge fans of Reign in Blood album and always wanted to match as target. in my opinion finally they exceeded their idols by miles with Slaughter of the Soul.
