judas christ

though somehow it was not a surprise that Johan, son of nothing decided to quit music business and therefore leave TiamaT for good. admit it or not, tiamat hit their peaks already a few times and their last decade have not been better than a vague illusion. nevertheless, it is damn hard to accept the fact Edlund releases no more songs on his deep baritone voice – he was definitely a twisted Nick Cave / Leonard Cohen figure of the style once known as gothic doom/death. though transformed a number of times, his irony and sarcasm will be surely missed.
i am still in love with a number of their releases:
- wildhoney opened many eyes and introduced an eclectic, widened way of orchestration and production to the goth metal scene that was not even prepared for such perfection (after the milestone Icon album of some british lads). and the sound of this record is just unbelievable still after 20 years: Magnus Sahlgren is probably a lost gem and recommended for any soloist, Lars Sköld is indeed one of the best drummer i have ever seen (next to Josh Freese)
- deeper kind of slumber marked a widened scale of Johan’s ideas, mostly not even on metal or rock territory. yet the songs probably even deeper than before, regardless of styles captured. pretty sure this record still has some to give a few decades later
- skeleton skeletron saw Johan & guys flirting with dark rock (and since) & electronix, a direction in my opinion they had been too eager to follow. after many years and recordings, i do think it would have been wise to take a break and head for another eclectic album in the vein of slumber. back to skeletron: this album is full of irony though the lyrics are almost hurting and still feature unexpected songs
- judas christ is their last major recording in a real studio and their last experiment. though mostly a recycling of their psychedelic influences it has many memorable moments and features great goth/psych hits and interludes

Johan, lycka till och tack för alla! ha det bra!
